About Lindsay

Lindsay also graduated from CNU with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a minor in Psychology.  While attending school she spent time with her Phi Mu sorority sisters, and facilitated community events for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.  She currently works in the President’s Office at CNU.  In her free time she enjoys photography, reading, and serving as event coordinator for By Grace.

How they met

Lindsay was friends with Zach’s older sister Kristen and when Zach came to CNU she thought he was the cutest freshman.  They began to build a friendship but when Zach told her he liked her, she stubbornly refused to date him because he was a year younger.  They remained good friends for the rest of Lindsay’s four years.  The night before graduation Zach confessed to still having feelings for her, and Lindsay finally reciprocated.  Their first date was a surprise kayaking trip that Zach planned with dinner at a hibachi restaurant afterwards.

The Proposal

To celebrate Lindsay’s birthday, they planned on spending some time with friends in Newark, New Jersey where they have both done mission work.  They arrived in Newark early in the morning and spent the entire day catching up with their friends.  That evening Zach took Lindsay into New York City for a special birthday dinner.  They ate a delicious meal at Tavern on the Green, a gorgeous restaurant in Central Park.  After their magical dinner they went for a walk through Central Park just enjoying the evening.  Lindsay thought if he was going to propose that night he would do it then, but when he didn't even act nervous she decided to just enjoy the night for what it was- a special birthday treat.  They got back on the train to Newark where Lindsay's girlfriends would pick them up at the station.  When they arrived at the station, Martha and Betsy were there, but they threw a blindfold around Lindsay and told her they were kidnapping her for a girls night like old times and someone else would come get Zach.  So Lindsay left Zach at the station and was thrilled to be kidnapped by her favorite girls for a birthday adventure!  The girls drove her around and around claiming to have forgotten the way to the secret location and Lindsay was blissfully ignorant to their actual plan.  They finally parked the car and led her, still blindfolded, along a path to the "restaurant" and finally brought her into what she thought was an alleyway.  It felt dark and cold.  They told her to take her blindfold off when she heard the music start to play and they started to back away.  Lindsay thought they had planned a surprise party and the entire restaurant was about to sing happy birthday.  So when the music started to play and it was "I can't help falling in love with you" Lindsay was confused and took the blindfold off to realize Martha and Betsy were gone and she was inside the sanctuary of the church in Newark.  It had been cleared out and there were roses and candles everywhere.  Lindsay was still in shock, and surprised to see Zach there!  But he took her hand and led her down the aisle of roses and candles to the stage where he sat down with her and began to tell her of their relationship and all that it meant to him.  He said, "I don't really know everything but I do know three things.  We are together for God's glory, for our sanctification, and for the futherance of His Kingdom."  He then knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry him.  Lindsay said yes!  They danced a little and then went to the basement of the church where all of their Newark friends were waiting to celebrate with them!  The entire night couldn't have been more perfect.
